HR Recordkeeping: Web Workshop

Personnel Records:
What to Keep, What to Toss

With all those personnel records around (paper and electronic), it's tempting to have a big end-of-year cleaning. But if you destroy the wrong document, you could destroy your career. And if you keep everything, you may be violating federal rules on the "reasonable" disposal of sensitive documents.

Are you confidently up to date on the recent changes to recordkeeping management? Test your knowledge. Do you know …

Yes   No

How long you must retain applications, résumés, FMLA certifications and payroll records?

How the new I-9 rules affect your handling of immigration records?

How the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act changed your payroll retention requirements?

The general retention rule of thumb you can safely apply to almost any HR record?

How your recordkeeping duties change when you "reasonably anticipate" litigation?

The new Federal Rules of Civil Procedure for storing and deleting company emails?

To help you confidently answer "Yes!" to these and other such questions, we've updated our popular webinar, Personnel Records: What to Keep, What to Toss, hosted by employment law attorney Barbara Cusumano. Join us on Friday, October 7.

Register Now

This engaging, entertaining webinar will explain recordkeeping requirements in light of the new laws and regulations. Plus, Barbara will describe the legally safe best practices for gathering, storing and destroying personnel records.

As part of the Q&A portion of the workshop, Barbara will answer YOUR tough questions on retaining and disposing of personnel records … a delicate balancing act with disciplinary documentation, performance evaluations, workplace investigations and medical data.

Responsible HR recordkeeping practices begin long before a job candidate walks through your door. And they extend long after an employee leaves your workforce. Don't fall victim to a simple mistake that could have easily been avoided.

Please join us on October 7 for this revealing and instructive event, and soon you'll clear out those files with confidence!

Sincerely,

Pat DiDomenico, Editorial Director
HR Specialist

Increase productivity with just 7 tools

Most of us are always looking for new ways to get through our to-do lists and make the most of each day. Christina Desmarais at Inc.com has come up with a list of seven digital tools to help you do just that.

Slack. This messaging platform allows teams to communicate in one central spot, doing away with the silos email creates. It also integrates with hundreds of apps for devices and computers. For example, by hooking Twitter up with Slack you can keep an eye on what people are tweeting about your company, competitors, or anything you want to track. Price: Plans range from free to $15 a month per user.

What Makes a Great Business App?

Typeform. If you need any kind of form on your website, this communication tool can help. It's a software platform that lets visitors register or pay for things, complete job applications, provide ideas for a suggestion box, fill out incident reports, contact your company, or do anything else that necessitates a form. Price: Plans range from free to $70 a month.

Dialpad. This business phone platform uses the cloud to send company calls, texts and multimedia messages to all of your devices. You pick up from whichever is most convenient. Unlike a lot of conferencing services Dialpad does not require a PIN and integrates with Google Apps for Work, Office 365, LinkedIn and Twitter. Price: Ranges from $15 to $29 per user per month.

Experts Exchange. This online community gives help with tech issues. You can submit a question, browse articles and videos or hire an expert for one-on-one help in real time. Price: Plans range from free to $21 per month.

The Many Ways Cloud Can Facilitate Growth

Thrive Day Planner. This digital day planner can be used on any device or computer and lets you track progress reaching yearly, monthly, weekly and daily goals. Price: $19.97.

CCleaner. This does some necessary house cleaning on your computer. It cleans up files, erases browser search history and cookies, disables unneeded programs and cleans errors and broken settings that lead to crashes. Price: Plans range from free to $39.95 at Piriform.

Prezi. This PowerPoint alternative provides a nonlinear way to give a presentation. More than 75 million people now use the visual storytelling tool. Price: Free to $4.92 per month.

Moving HCM to the Cloud to Drive Innovation

Moving HCM to the Cloud
to Drive Innovation

Date: October 20, 2016 | Time: 1:00 p.m. ET/10:00 a.m. PT | Duration: 45 Minutes

In 2008, San Diego-based Illumina, a leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of life-science tools and integrated systems, was in the market for a cloud-based Software as a Solution (SaaS) option.

Illumina, believing in the SaaS model, selected Workday as its human capital management (HCM) vendor, becoming Workday’s 55th client.

In this webinar, Pat Leckman, senior director of global total rewards and HRIS, will share the reasons behind Illumina’s decision to go down the SaaS HCM path and sign on with Workday. She will:

► Detail the benefits of the Workday solution, including how it enables HR to now focus on strategy and partner with the business;

 Discuss how a unified design and business process functionality means much less time spent on administrative duties, especially in the benefits areas;

Explore how Workday’s solution is a perfect fit for Illumina’s emphasis on innovation, especially being nimble in entering new markets; and

Explain about how Illumina is able to deliver outstanding HR metrics, with an internal HRIS team of just a few people.

Pat will also outline in detail how Illumina has been able to stretch its HCM strategy beyond the status quo discussions and look for that consistent innovation in key areas such as core HR, benefits, compensation, onboarding and talent management.

Speaker: Pat Leckman
